As a new teacher many years ago, I was transformed by my first experience attending a LACTMA conference. I was exposed to concepts, strategies, and innovative ideas about teaching mathematics that I hadn’t ever encountered. As I grew as a math teacher, LACTMA continued to be a significant source of inspiration, lending many excellent opportunities to network with other educators and researchers. Eventually, I became a presenter, giving back to LACTMA what it had given to me.
Professional Development in our area has all but disappeared. I want to help revive LACTMA, and bring back a necessary ingredient for growth for all of us, in all stages of our teaching experience. With all the ongoing innovations with technology, we cannot afford to continue without LACTMA, and organizations like it.
My past experience as a Trustee for LACTMA speaks to my dedication to helping this organization become, once again, an excellent resource for math teachers, future and veteran alike. It’s an honor to be able to give back to Los Angeles Collaborative Teachers of Mathematics Association!
